Fire in the Sky

Fire in the Sky reveals the vibrancy and dynamics that result when two different systems interact. This image is itself a scientific plot, the uncertainty in apex location. To convert it from a science plot to artwork we removed the plot title, the axes labels, and the color bar. By focusing only on the visuals we allow the data to tell the story. In this case, the fundamental story of the ionosphere – that plasma dynamics arises from the difference between the geomagnetic and geographic equators.
